2017 READING GOALS

Hi everyone!

A couple of months ago I posted about my midyear reading goals. I talked about some thing I wanted to reach by the end of this year. Unfortunately on most point I didn't succeed as much as I would have liked to. Setting the reading goals dit however inspire me, and really kept me wanting to make progress. That's why I decided that for 2017, I wanted to make some more reading goals. Here they are:

5 RE-READS:
I want to re-read at least 5 books.

6 HISTORICAL FICTION:
Historical fiction is slowly becoming my favourite genre and I want to discover more of it.

 5 DUTCH FICTION:
I want to read at least 5 Dutch books!

8 TRANSLATED FICTION:
I would really like to read more diverse and I want to read at least 8 translated books.

3 MAGICAL REALISM:
I only ever read one or two books of magical realism, but I really enjoyed those. In 2017 I would really like to discover more of this genre.

3 NON-FICTION:
I also want to start to read a little non-fiction every now and then. At least three in 2017 would be great.

5 POETRY:
I would love, love to read more poetry!

4 CLASSICS:
I would like to read a few classics next year!

12 MY WISHLIST - RANDOMLY SELECTED:
I want to select a book from my wishlist through a random name picker each month.

12 - MY WISHLIST - IN ORDER (FROM TOP OR BOTTOM):
I also want to pick one book from my wishlist in the correct order each month. Can be chosen from the top or bottom.

This year I had set my goal to read 65 books which I succeeded. In 2017 I would like to bump up this goal by a bit and set it to 70!  Blog-wise I would like to upload at least 4 reviews a month and post more consequent.

Lastly for myself, I want to make an Excel file and write down some statistics of all the books I read in 2017. For example: where is the author from, where is the book set, is the author male or female, etcetera.

What are your reading goals for 2017?

BOOK DISCUSSION | MID-YEAR READING STATISTICS

Hello!

Since we are over the half of this year, I decided to see how I'm doing with my reading so far this year.

I have read 49 books so far, this means I am seven books ahead of my goal to read 75 books by the end of this year. Nine of those books I gave a 5-star rating. Fifteen I gave a 4-star rating, nineteen a 3-star rating, four a 2-star rating and two a 1-star rating.

I have read 15,297 pages so far. The longest book I read this year was 'Illuminae' this book is 599 pages. The oldest book I read so far this year was Peter Pan which was published in 1911.

I have read books that are set in America, Mexico, Ireland, England, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Germany, Italy, India, Singapore and Australia. I still want to branch out a bit more in this.

I have completed 32 challenges from the 'Around The World in 52 Books' challenge including: a book set in the past (more than 100 years ago), a book set in a different continent and a book with a beautiful cover.

Since I hadn't set any personal goals at the beginning of this year, I can't tell you anything about that. Since I have, set mid-year goals I will talk them through at the end of the year. This was it for now, thanks for reading!

I hope you have a lovely day!

BOOK DISCUSSION | PICKING YOUR NEXT READ

Hi!

Since I am the reader that I am, I always have a pile of books that are 'To Be Read' in my room. This pile is most of the times around fifteen books. I buy some, then I read some, then I buy some etcetera.  Since there are loads of book on this pile it is hard for me to pick my next read.

I have some books that I already own for a longer time on my TBR, but since I also order new releases, and new books, it is hard to pick. That is why I decided that I wouldn't decide what I would read next, I would let a 'name picker' do it.

I decided to do this, because if I wouldn't, I would never pick up a book like 'Life of Pi', which has been on my TBR for four years. Recently it was picked by the 'name picker' or fruitmachine as it is called on the interwebs, and so I finally read it.

I think a fruitmachine is a very fun way to pick your next read. This way there is a possibility that you also have to read the books that aren't as high on your TBR as others. Unless you cheat of course.

I am very curious how you pick your next read? Do you just pick whatever flows your boat, do you let other people choose for you or?.. Let me know!

BOOK DISCUSSION | WRITING NOTES IN BOOKS

Recently a thought past my mind. 'Wouldn't it be fun to write the date in the book, from when I got the book. And if it was a gift, from who'm I got it/what occasion.'

I currently have quite a lot of books that I have collected over the past couple of years. Some I got as a gift, some for myself but of a lot I'm not sure when or why or from who I got the books. I now wished that I had written it down somewhere for example in the book. I always used to be against writing in books, I saw it as damaging the book. But now I wish I had.

On the 6th of May, 2009 my grandmother gave me her edition of Anne Frank's diary. I know it was this date, because she wrote it down. She always used to write the date on something when she gave a present to me, or any of her other grandchildren. Especially now she is passed away, it has such an important message to me that she wrote it down. May I also add that my grandmother passed away on the 6th of May 2013, coincidence?

I am sure that when we are ten years further, I will for most of the books that I own now, won't remember when I got them - or which occasion, etc. So I'm thinking of beginning to writing it down in the books. I'm still contemplating because I think it is quite a decision to make; to write in (most of the times) quite expensive books.

What do you think about this idea? Do you write in your books?
